Overview

Scrum Poker is a production-ready agile estimation web application built for small and medium-sized software teams. It lets teams create estimation rooms, add user stories, invite participants, vote with story points, reveal results, and move through sprint planning rounds in a focused, distraction-free interface. The application is built with Next.js 16 App Router, React 19, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS v4, and a custom Scrum API integration. The frontend is exported as a static Next.js build and served through Docker and Nginx, with API traffic proxied to a Go backend service. Both the frontend and backend are deployed on a Hetzner VPS, giving full control over infrastructure, routing, caching, and production deployment. The UI is designed as a professional developer tool rather than a playful poker app. I redesigned the site with Claude Design and implemented the frontend with Codex, using CSS variables, dark/light themes, Inter and JetBrains Mono typography, compact layouts, semantic components, accessible controls, and responsive screen structures inspired by tools like Linear, GitHub, and Cursor. The backend was also built end-to-end with Codex in Go, covering the Scrum room API, room lifecycle, story and voting flows, reveal/reset controls, reconnect behavior, and production deployment behind the same Hetzner-hosted infrastructure.

→Go backend built with Codex and deployed on the same Hetzner-hosted production stack
→Dockerized static Next.js deployment served through Nginx on Hetzner
Challenges
—Designing a planning tool that feels focused and professional instead of game-like
—Keeping room, story, voting, reveal, reset, and reconnect states predictable
—Serving a static frontend while routing API traffic cleanly to the Go backend service
—Turning an AI-assisted redesign into maintainable production frontend code
